Vision Statement

ACRA was founded in 1968 as an initiative by a group of people motivated by the desire to promote community services for sustainable development in the southern countries of the world, focusing on rural areas. It is inspired by the ideas of cooperation, human-centered and environmentally sustainable development, through partnerships and equal relationships.

Mission Statement

In partnership with National and/or District Institutions, Government Entitites, and 0 Non-Governmental Organzations (NGOs), ACRA aims to activate dynamic self-developmtn through progressive reinforcement at the local, national, and international levels of our partnership network.

Key Objectives and Goals

The objectives of ACRA's work are information, constant dialogue, construction of space for research, concrete support and aggregation of sensitive actors. It supports development projects that are community-based and have been identified and initiated by local communities in the fields of economics, environment, health and education.

Major Past Achievements

Completion of the project "Education for Rural People, " funded by the E.U. Commission (Dec., 2006); Completion of the first year of implementation of the "Pro-Poor Tourism in Zanzibar" Project (Jan., 2007); Termination of first year of implementation of proper tourism in Zanzibar project; Training community in Nungwi about tourism and hospitality; Environmental club in three schools trained (Nungwi, Fukuchani, Kidoti); Sensitized community on waste management issues in Nungwi for seven villages
